The sludge-slingers known as Negative Reaction have returned with their newest release entitled, Under The Ancient Penalty, courtesy of This Dark Reign Records. Personally, I don't know much about the band or their past releases, but I can tell you after hearing the new disc, they're something special. The disc sounds like it was recorded on a four track back in '75 under the influences of PCP.
Negative Reaction is the same as most Sludge/Doom oriented bands, they rely heavily on loads of fuzz and distorted feedback. What separates the band from the rest is the vocal work of Ken Bones, who from the sound of it, is in need of a serious drink and some pills- someone give him some! Vocally, he comes across like a Hardcore vocalist or dare I say he's been influenced by the scene. Imagine the vocal intensity of a Earth Crisis matched with the Sludge-filled sounds of an Ozzy era Sabbath and there you'll find Negative Reaction. I rarely enjoy this kind of music these days, it's just not my thing. However, this band begs me to question my own preferences. Under The Ancient Penalty is slam-packed with fuzzed out guitar riffs, slow/grinding breakdowns and a backdrop that sounds like the hammers of the Gods. For the most part, the music on this album brings to the surface torment, pain and regret. The tracks "Suffer", "Alone" and "Lost" are all adorned with pain-staking vocals and swamped out sludge-filled guitar progressions. And this is just the beginning - you still have the tunes "Sorrow" and "Pain" to deal with.
I can't say everybody is gonna be feeling Negative Reaction, but if you've got a hankering for COC, Sabbath, Earth Crisis or Pentagram this disc is very ear worthy. I'll meet you all in "Swamp Pain" directly...(@BlackAngelProd.)
ich kenn mich da ja nich so aus mit den ganzen bezeichnungen aber was so als sludge bezeichnet wir d is mr durchaus sympathisch.. hört sich das jetzt also eher wie eyehategod oder doch wie khanate/monarch etc an?
eher die ehg schiene. aber am besten ist es du probierst es mal aus ,für mich persönlich eine sehr gute band ... wenn auch der gesang z.T. etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig erscheinen mag.

weil das ne klasse band ist? sofern man mit dem gesang klarkommt aber die beste scheibe von negative reaction ist und bleibt (für mich) the orion chronicles aus dem jahr 2000
